Best Tasting Lip Balm Flavors: Our Honey Balms, Ranked
· Honeloom Team
If you're searching for the best tasting lip balm, the honest answer is that it depends on your mood: juicy fruit, a slice of dessert, something floral, or a cozy classic. So instead of crowning one winner, we sorted our honey balms into four flavor families and ranked each one. It's a just-for-fun, completely subjective list, made to help you pick your next pot from the full bee balm lineup.
Does flavored lip balm actually have a taste?
A little, yes, but most of what you experience is aroma. Food scientists describe smell as a critical part of how we experience flavor, and they also point out that flavor perception is highly individual. That second point is why your best friend swears by a flavor you find just okay. Keep it in mind as you read our rankings.
One more thing before the fun part: lip balm is a cosmetic, not a snack. Our balms are flavored and scented to make every swipe feel like a treat, but they're not meant to be eaten. And try not to lick them off. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that as saliva evaporates, your lips become drier, which is the opposite of what you want from a balm.
How we ranked the flavors
We grouped every pot by flavor family, then ordered each group by how easy it is to love and how well it fits the moment it was made for. A flavor at number four is not a bad flavor. It's just more of a niche pick. Every balm in the list comes in the same 5 g honey pot with a honey-dipper applicator, so the choice really is all about flavor.
The classics, ranked
These are the flavors from our classic collection, the ones that stick around all year.
- Strawberry. Sweet, bright berry with a candy-shop feel. It's the easiest flavor on this list to love, and the formula lists strawberry extract. Best for: anyone who wants a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
- Honey Bee Balm. The original. Soft, warm and gently sweet, made with beeswax, propolis extract, vitamin E, jojoba oil and honey extract. Best for: people who like their balm subtle enough to wear all day.
- Watermelon. Juicy and summery, with a throwback-candy vibe that makes it a favorite for nostalgia lovers. Best for: anyone who misses summer the second it ends.
- Peach. Mellow, soft and fuzzy-sweet, with peach extract in the list. Best for: people who find most fruit flavors too loud.
Fruity limited editions, ranked
Our limited edition flavors are where we get playful. Limited means just that, so if one catches your eye, don't wait too long.
- Mango. Tropical and juicy, with mango extract. A little vacation for your lips.
- Grape. Sweet, purple-candy energy, with grape seed oil in the formula.
- Blueberry. Berry-sweet and cheerful, a nice change of pace from Strawberry.
- Coconut Milk. Creamy and tropical rather than fruity-tart. Lovely if you like your sweets mellow.
- Banana. Quirky, fun and made with banana extract. It's a love-it or skip-it flavor, which is exactly why it has fans.
- Red Apple. Crisp and cheerful, like the first apple of the season.
- Grapefruit. Zesty, bright citrus. It's the most refreshing pick here, but citrus is also the one to save for lips that are just dry rather than cracked (more on that below).
Dessert and candy flavors, ranked
For anyone who reads a dessert menu first, these are the flavors that smell like a bakery or a candy jar.
- S'mores. Melted chocolate and toasted marshmallow, like a campfire you can carry in your pocket.
- Hazelnut Ice Cream. Rich and nutty-sweet, with hazelnut oil, hazelnut extract and honey extract. A must for anyone who loves nutty desserts and doesn't have a nut allergy.
- Key Lime Pie. Tart meets sweet, with lime extract and honey extract. Think graham-cracker summer.
- Carrot Cake. Sweet, cozy and a little unexpected, inspired by the classic Easter dessert.
- Pumpkin Spice. Warm and seasonal, and the coziest scent in the lineup. It's ranked fifth only because it is so tied to fall. From October to Thanksgiving, it jumps to the top.
- Bubblegum. Sweet and nostalgic. Fun fact: its ingredient list includes strawberry extract and banana extract, two fruit notes that play into that classic bubblegum smell.
Floral and tea flavors, ranked
Not everyone wants dessert on their lips. These three are softer and a little more grown-up.
- Honey Matcha. Light and smooth, with honey extract and matcha tea extract. Like your morning latte, minus the cup.
- Lavender. Fresh and calm, with lavender extract. A springtime feeling any time of year.
- Rose. Soft and floral, with rose flower extract. Best for anyone who likes a balm that feels more like a perfume than a dessert.

How to enjoy flavored lip balm the smart way
- Use the dipper. Scoop a little balm with the honey-dipper applicator instead of your finger to keep the pot cleaner. A little goes a long way, and with daily use one pot lasts about four to six weeks.
- Don't lick it off. Licking dries lips out. Reapply instead.
- Go easy on bright flavors when lips are sore. The AAD notes that cinnamon, citrus, mint and peppermint flavors can be especially irritating to dry, chapped lips. If your lips are cracked or stinging, pause the citrus and spice picks until they feel better.
- Check for allergens. Every balm contains bee products such as beeswax, and several also list honey extract or propolis. Many flavored balms also contain hazelnut oil and coconut oil. If you're allergic to bees, pollen, propolis or nuts, read the full ingredient list on each product page first, and stop using any balm that irritates your lips.
- Keep it away from little ones. A pot that smells like candy can look like candy to a small child. Honey should never be given to babies under 12 months, so don't use our balms on infants.
